Respite Care
Respite care is care provided for a set period of time while the primary carer rests from their regular care duties. When existing care arrangements fail due to a deterioration in the patient’s condition or carer strain or burnout, emergency respite care is frequently required.
Caring for others can be extremely rewarding, but it is also a demanding task that can leave caregivers exhausted and depleted of energy. Many caregivers work 50 hours or more per week in a high-stress environment. Caregivers, both unpaid and paid, require a support system that allows them to take breaks and vacations without abandoning their charge.
In most other jobs, sickness or vacation cover is simple – but for caregivers, the responsibility is enormous. Caregivers must be able to take time off, even if only to attend appointments, fitness classes, and social events, but in order to do so, they must be confident that adequate cover care is in place.
This is where respite care comes into play.
Respite care is temporary care that covers for a regular home caregiver. Respite live-in care provides carers with an important opportunity to rest and recuperate from the business of caring, allowing them to continue to provide a high level of service.
